Irene Dunkley MSc; BSc; RGN; is the current Chairperson of BSG Nurse associates. Irene is well known to the nursing community having worked as a Nurse Consultant in Endoscopy and Gastroenterology for over 20 years at Hinchingbrooke Healthcare NHS Trust. Irene's main areas of specialist practice are as Nurse Endoscopist and caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Irene is a trainer for lower gastrointestinal endoscopy for both the medical and nursing workforce.
Irene promotes nursing interests as chairperson of the BSG nurse associates and is the first nurse to have a place on BSG council bringing the nurses voice to BSG directly. With current developments around workforce and education, working with other organisations is key these include the JAG committee, GIN programme, RCN gastrointestinal forum, and also the European education working group of ESGENA. Irene has contributed to the work on the non-medical endoscopist pilot being undertaken by Health Education England.
Working alongside this broad spectrum of nursing and medical colleagues to promote compassionate patient centered care and enhance nursing practices. She is keen to progress nursing interests and standards within gastrointestinal nursing and embraces the challenges ahead for nursing and patient care.
